First of all, you need to know that G96 is a constant surface cutting speed. What's the advantage of adding G96S100 in CNC turning? Before thinking about this problem, you may only know S1000, which means 1000 revolutions per minute for the spindle, n = 1000V/pid, where n is 1000. When turning a stepped shaft, the diameter D of the workpiece changes, then the cutting speed V changes, that is, the spindle speed n is constant, and the cutting speed V is proportional to the diameter D of the workpiece. Do you have the same error in the dimension of each axis when you process the stepped shaft?


Therefore, in order to ensure that the surface roughness of the workpiece after turning is the same, we need to keep the cutting speed constant. When turning the workpiece in different positions, the system automatically calculates the spindle speed. Usually, it should be used in conjunction with G50, which is the maximum speed of the workpiece.

Finally, to describe the problem in one sentence, G96 is to keep the surface cutting speed constant, while G97 is to cancel the constant surface cutting speed or spindle speed, that is, how many rotations per minute is invariable. The general system defaults to G97.
